We’re Halfway Through PHLAFF 2026! — Week Tres Recap
We’re officially halfway through our Los Quince season! With three more weeks of programming left, we can’t wait to show you what we have in store for the closing weeks of our festival season.
Kicking It Off at PhillyCAM!
Week Tres marked the beginning of PHLAFF, activating new spaces as part of our community integration and collaborative efforts for the season after spending our first two weeks at Icebox Project Space and Ulises Book Store.
We started the week with in-person programs on Thursday afternoon at PhillyCAM, Philadelphia’s own non-profit community media center. The program was a Philly Filmmaker showcase, where we showed their selected films and closed with an intimate conversation with filmmakers in attendance in our audience. Presented films included Faker (dir. Matthew J. Lacy, United States), EL HIJO PRODIGO (dir. Luis Corporan, United States), Proyecto De Armas (dir. Jerrick Medrano, United States), La Lucha Sigue (dir. Melissa Beatriz, United States), Portraits of Philly Rumba (dir. Melissa Beatriz & Andrés Cisneros, United States), 5 Ways I Didn’t Marry You (dir. Tom Dunn, United States), and Henry Bermudez Art in Continuous Evolution (dir. Jesus Rincon, United States).
Documentary Shorts at Vox Populi
We spent Thursday evening at Vox Populi, a contemporary art space and artist collective. We shared our Documentary Through Perspective shorts block (Needle and Light: Victoria Villasana (dir. Felicia Manning, United States), The Last Puestero (dir. Belle Casares, Argentina/United States), Nail Tech: Portrait of an Artist (dir. Jillian Hernandez and Elena Guzman, United States), Zelzin, huellas que inspiran (dir. Zelzin Aketzalli Weeks and Adam Pawlikiewicz, Mexico/United States), and Somos Cumbia, Somos Familia (dir. Xavier Diaz, United States)) in the black box screening space. In the adjacent exhibit halls, audience members were able to enjoy the ongoing MOUTHFUL exhibition, curated by Vox Populi director Blanche Brown.
We’ll be back at Vox Populi on Thursday, June 18th as part of our Week Cuatro! Grab your tickets and learn more here
Under the Stars 2026 — Ninxs!
PHLAFF was thrilled to co-present Pennsylvania’s Premiere Niñxs at cinéSPEAK’s Under the Stars Film Festival on Friday, June 12th! Under the Stars brings audiences together for magical evenings of outdoor cinema at one of Philadelphia’s most beloved green spaces—West Philly’s historic Clark Park. For four weeks, every Friday night, cinéSPEAK proudly features award-winning independent films from around the world. Each evening-long event includes sweet tunes from local DJs, tasty food trucks, and collaborations with community organizations.
Join them next Friday, June 19th, for their closing event!
Closing at PhillyCAM
We closed off Week Tres where we started it—with our PhillyCAM community. Our Saturday screenings, which included a feature-length documentary (Silent Struggle, dir. Sara Sálamom, Spain) following Spanish soccer player Isco Alarcón and a shorts lounge block (including Heaven Doesn’t Know My Name (dir. Carol AÓ, Brazil), They Tried to Cap Me (dir. Pablo Solano, United States), and Un último bolero (dir. Roberto Thomas-Díaz, Panama)) of drama and documentary shorts, brought audiences together in PhillyCAM’s community room. Our team is grateful to have shared with the PhillyCAM team for yet another festival season, and we hope our audiences enjoyed being immersed in the spaces as much as we did.
