FILM PROGRAMMING ON FRIDAY 5/30

Good Friday (62 mins)

When — 12:00 PM

A striking meditation on guilt, faith, and memory. Good Friday centers on a woman grappling with her father’s death and her estranged family's expectations. Told with poetic restraint, this film asks: What do we owe our past — and what are we willing to let go?

Colibrí (98 mins)

When — 1:15 PM

A visually rich tale that explores the intersection of art, migration, and inner reckoning. As an aging painter reflects on the life he left behind, Colibrí invites us into a world shaped by color, memory, and the stories we carry in silence.

SHORTS BLOCK: PERSEVERANCE IN FOCUS

When — 3:00 PM

This carefully selected trio of shorts dives into stories of strength, survival, and deeply human resistance:

La Bruja (The Witch)

In a rural town steeped in fear and folklore, an isolated woman believed to be a witch quietly endures the weight of exclusion and myth. A powerful reflection on how communities create their outcasts.

El Último Tramo

As he nears the end of his life, a man journeys—physically and emotionally—to mend a family torn apart by time and pride. Quiet and devastating in equal measure.

Hero

A young child comes of age in the face of injustice, revealing how heroism often lives in the smallest, most personal acts of courage.

Arillo de hombre muerto (108 mins)

When — 4:00 PM

Bold, unflinching, and layered with suspense, Arillo de hombre muerto unravels a generational mystery buried in a family’s past. With lush cinematography and powerful performances, it’s a slow-burn thriller that pays off in waves.

CLOSING NIGHT CONCERT: LOS RIVERA DESTINO LIVE

Taller Puertorriqueño (2600 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19133)
When — 8:00 PM

Cap off your PHLAFF experience with a live performance by Los Rivera Destino, a Puerto Rican trio known for their unique and modern take on bolero rhythms. Formed in 2012 by Carlos Figueroa, Antonio Sánchez, and Fernando Tarrazo, the group gained international recognition with their bolero rendition of "Te Boté" and their collaboration with Bad Bunny on the heartfelt track "Flor". The performance will surely be one to remember!
