Welcome to People’s Cinema Club, a new microcinema powered by BlackStar at the Village of Arts and Industry!
What is People’s Cinema Club?
People’s Cinema Club is a weekly film series curated by Philadelphia's independent film community. Powered by BlackStar at the Village of Industry and Art, the cinema club hosts intimate screenings for local audiences right in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. People’s Cinema Club is a collaboration between BlackStar Projects, cinéSPEAK, Philadelphia Asian American Film Foundation, and Philadelphia Latino Arts & Film Festival. Catch a new movie every Tuesday at 6:30 PM, curated by some of your favorite organizations at the helm of film culture in Philadelphia.
Join us for classics, Philadelphia premieres, local films, and deep cuts right in the center of the city. Hosted in the screening room at the newly repurposed Village of Industry and Art, with free and accessible admission for all, People’s Cinema Club brings the magic of cinema to the Avenue of the Arts.
Latine Heritage Month Program
PHLAFF’s first collaborative screening with the cinema club is coming up on September 15th at 6:30 PM! To kick off Latine Heritage Month, PHLAFF is proud to collaborate with People’s Cinema Club to present a special Philadelphia Documentary Filmmaker Program, featuring a curated selection of documentaries from our 2026 festival season.
Henry Bermudez Art in Continuous Evolution

Henry Bermudez: Art in Continuous Evolution is a visually captivating promotional video that explores the artistic journey of renowned Venezuelan-American artist Henry Bermudez. The video showcases his intricate and imaginative artworks, highlighting the evolution of his creative vision over decades of artistic practice. Through detailed imagery of his drawings, sculptures, and mixed-media installations, viewers are introduced to a world where mythology, nature, spirituality, and cultural identity intertwine.
Searching for the Songs of the Wanaragua
(Dir. Eli LaBan & Cesar Vargas | Honduras/United States | 2025)
A Honduran Garifuna teacher and an American filmmaker travel across Honduras to record traditional songs to use as teaching tools to help ensure the survival of the endangered Garifuna language.
Join us for an evening celebrating the stories, perspectives, and creative voices of some members of Philadelphia’s Latine filmmaking community. The program will conclude with a special Q&A featuring directors Jesus Rincón (Henry Bermudez: Art in Continuous Evolution) and Eli LaBan (Searching for the Songs of Wanaragua).
