PHLAFF 2023 July 9th Closing Celebration - PHLAFF X NUEVOFEST

Our 7/9 Closing celebration - PHLAFF X NUEVOFEST is almost here!

We have joined forces with AFROTAINO for this event. Come to Cherry Street Pier tomorrow to check out this incredible lineup of musicians, films, stand up comedy and dance!

Rolling Paisa

Rolling Paisa is a musical group that specializes in Urban Corridos, a genre of Mexican music that combines traditional corrido music with contemporary urban styles such as hip-hop, rap, and reggaeton. The group is known for their storytelling lyrics that explore a range of themes including love, family, personal struggles, and social issues. Rolling Paisa has released several songs such as "No Presumo", "Los Chismes", and "A Mi Madre", which have gained popularity among fans of Urban Corridos. The group consists of two brothers, including lead singer and songwriter, who goes by the name of "El Corita". Rolling Paisa has become an important part of the Urban Corrido movement and continues to produce new music that reflects the experiences and perspectives of Mexican and Mexican-American communities.

Amori

Bilingual singer-songwriter from Juncos, Puerto Rico, now based in Barcelona and New York City.

Her indie-folk-pop sound has captured the hearts of music lovers, reaching across Latin America with her viral videos and bittersweet melodies. She co-wrote "La Que Manda", the title track of the Latin Grammy-nominated EP by indie pop artist Gina Chavez, and has shared stages with other Latin Grammy alum artists like Linda Briceño and Gregorio Uribe. With a new full-length debut album on the way, AMORI is ready to deliver her original sound to the world.

El Individuo

El Individuo (Rafael Bou) is one of the most celebrated rappers of the alternative hip-hop scene of Cuba. Picking up from the school of local acts such as Doble Filo, Obsesión and Los Aldeanos, he’s been able to craft a unique lyrical style (think about the theatrics of Calle 13, the athleticism of Snow Da Product and the avant-garde vision of Kendrick Lamar). While his lyrics are known for telling intriguing stories about everyday life with great theatrical antics, his musical vision has the ambition of treating hip hop as a new form of jazz, replacing samples with hooks from some of the best musicians Cuba has to offer, and creating daring to create distinct Afro Cuban Hip Hop evolutions of new urban sounds such as drill, neo dembow or trap.

His single "Mi Raza" from the album AfroRazones was highlighted by Billboard, The Fader and The New York Times. He was also part of the album ¡Subelo Cuba!, from Gilles Peterson and Tigre Sounds named him “one of the best kept secrets of Spanish speaking rap”. Additionally, the very own Residente from Calle 13 has celebrated the freestyle exercises El Individuo uploads to his Instagram account.

Comedian Che Guerrero

Che Guerrero has spent 16 years tackling race, politics, and family through stand-up comedy. Che's style is rooted in his experiences growing up undocumented. A revolutionary voice on the modern comedy scene, His sense of humor and command of the stage is the result of obstacles often unseen by the average American.
