Join Us for Confluence Film Festival!

This April, join us on a cinematic journey! The Confluence Film Festival is coming to The Academy of Natural Sciences, April 2nd–23rd. See powerful films that explore the intersection of environment, art, and culture.

What is Confluence?

The Confluence Film Festival brings together environmental storytelling, cinematic artistry, and community dialogue. Through a curated selection of feature films, shorts, and documentaries, the festival explores humanity’s relationship with water, wildlife, climate, and the natural world.

Presented in partnership with local film organizations, this festival celebrates creators who illuminate environmental truth, inspire action, and expand our cultural understanding of the world around us.

When Will PHLAFF Present with Confluence?

PHLAFF is excited to be a part of Confluence’s closing night this year on April 23rd, 2026. Starting at 5:30 PM, join us for a pre-screening gathering with organizational partners in Dino Hall, including food, music, and advocacy organizations. At 6:30 PM, the program will shift to our film presentations.

This year, PHLAFF is presenting two films as part of the Confluence celebration. We are excited to share these two environmental pieces that were shared as a part of our 2025 selections:

Hasta la Raíz (2024, 15 min.), a short historical fiction film by director Nuria Schettino González. In 1856, at a Mexican rancho in Los Angeles, a Tongva woman fights for her land and daughter when the ranchero's wife leaves to defend her own land grant.

El Tren y la Península (2023, 88 min.), a documentary feature by directors Sky Richards and Andreas Kruger Foncerrada. The Train and the Peninsula is an intimate portrait of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula as the controversial railroad megaproject known as the "Maya Train" is being built. A cinematic journey along the projected train route immerses us in the peninsula, exposing the environmental and social consequences of the development model imposed in the region.

Tickets for the event are $10/per person (and $6 for students with a valid ID).
