Cvgebird with a crown of flowers sitting on top of her ski-mask standing in front of her now abandoned neighborhood grocery store 'Cousins' on 2nd and Lehigh Ave.
A person with long curly dark hair wearing a royal blue suit and gold jewelry sits in a chair in an empty room with brick walls and concrete floors.

Cvgebird releases their highly anticipated short film music video for FRIDA TRAP. Through the modern lenses of art, poetry, music and culture, Cvgebird takes us on a journey through their hometown to pay homage to the Mexican Indigenous surrealist painter, poet and political activist Frida Khalo. Present day Philadelphia sets the scene for this cinematic masterpiece of a music video that is deeply influenced by Khalo, Latinx-Indigenous heritage and the artist's deep roots in the city itself. Finding the intersection of our collective struggle with the affirmation of joyous revolution, Cvgebird delivers us a visual anthem in FRIDA TRAP.

CVGEBIRD (pronounced Cagebird) grew up in Philly, during the golden era of HipHop and Soul. A child of the diaspora by way of Puerto Rican, Cuban and Brazilian descent, Cvgebird's house was always stirring with colorful-blends of music. Influenced by her father who was a DJ & afro-caribbean percussionist and her mother, a latin-caribbean dancer, Cvgebird fell in love with music and began crafting her own sonic wonderland. Starting from freestyle cyphers to late night venues and venturing into world-wide tours, Cvgebird has unearthed her artistic identity and is ready to soar. With a sound ranging from Acoustic, Trap and Soul with Carribean undertones, Cvgebird channels these musical stylings freely with soothing vocals and rhythmic flows.

Cvgebird has toured with Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel of The Fugees, has been featured on Sofar Sounds “Best of the Listening Room” and recently released their first short-film music video that they creatively directed, “FRIDA TRAP”.

Cvgebird works intentionally with young artists and families impacted by incarceration to provide a space of release, encouragement and healing. According to Cvgebird’s artistic statement, “Existing in a culture that tries to put us in cages of conformity, I want my music to empower listeners to break free and fly with open wings.”
