About the Film

In 1935 Cuba, gifted female troubadour María Teresa Vera, burdened with caring for her sister and eight nieces and nephews, faces eviction and a vow to abandon music after a spiritual awakening. She has an impossible choice: honor her spiritual promise or return to the only life that ever gave her a voice. She sends for skilled guitarist Lorenzo Hierrezuelo, sharing memories of her bohemian past and sacred promise. Desperate to survive, she returns to the stage with him, debuting “Veinte Años.” As applause fills the room, María Teresa reconciles faith and art, realizing that her struggles have shaped her into a stronger artist and woman.
