Soul Searchin’ explores the passionate world of rare soul record collectors who devote their lives to finding, preserving, and sharing forgotten music. More than a film about collecting, it is a story of cultural preservation, community, and obsession, following a small group of collectors as they rescue neglected recordings by Black and Chicano soul artists and transform forgotten songs into living history—from California to the world.

About the Filmmaker

Alexandro Vigano is a San Francisco Bay Area filmmaker with more than 25 years of experience across documentary and narrative projects. His work includes the comedy web series Yo Mama, the short documentary Souleros, and feature-length films Mind’s Eye and The Big Fish. Vigano also supports the next generation of filmmakers as an instructor in the Film Department at Ohlone College in Fremont, California.


Jesus Cruz is an independent filmmaker from the Bay Area in Northern California. He produces, directs, and edits documentaries centered on music, Chicano subcultures, and community-driven stories. In 2022, he directed and produced Souleros, a short documentary about Bay Area record collectors that won Best Short Documentary at the Lone Star Film Festival and screened at film festivals across the United States. Cruz’s work blends cultural history with character-driven storytelling, spotlighting the people and scenes that preserve overlooked music and traditions.
