About the Film
CAKE follows Rosy, a hardworking single mother determined to give her son Alex a meaningful birthday, even when money is tight, and obstacles keep mounting. What she can’t provide in extravagance, she makes up for with presence, care, and relentless love. Inspired by the film director's own seventh birthday, the story honors the quiet heroism of working-class and immigrant families, where devotion often lies in small, unseen acts.
As the day unfolds, setbacks test Rosy, but what begins as a struggle slowly transforms into something unexpected. The neighborhood around her steps in not with grand gestures, but with music, laughter, and shared warmth.
At its heart, CAKE is about dignity and joy. It reminds us that celebration isn’t defined by perfection, but by connection. Sometimes the sweetest gift isn’t the cake itself. But it’s in the community that gathers around it.
