About the Filmmaker
Kira Powell is a writer-director and actor of African American and Ecuadorian descent, with an MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute. Her AFI thesis short Best Eyes is a 57th NAACP Image Award nominee and a 2024 DGA Student Film Jury Award winner. Her films have screened internationally. Working across coming-of-age drama and psychological horror, she explores identity and inheritance through multiracial and immigrant experiences, and the ways love, protection, and survival shape who we become.
